‘The Hybrid’ is located between the most central kampungs of Bandung (Indonesia) and is conceived as an urban facilitator of activities (mainly skateboarding & BMX) for the youngsters and surrounding kampung inhabitants. 8 The 8 million youngsters in Bandung have little chances to cultivate their passions, particularly skateboarders who only have 2 small skateparks and 1 mini-ramp within the whole city.
Merging a skatepark with a community center enhances the kampung, providing for a safe and dynamic place to stay, meet, do skateboarding while fostering a new commercial, cultural, religious hub, always open and self-regulated by the users themselves.
In a fast-developing city, where needs can change in a matter of a few years, flexibility is key and skateboarders, in order to improve their skills, need to skate different courses.
As kampung skateboarders have little to no chance to travel around, the skatepark will change for them: skatepark ramps (skate-components) can easily be swapped with new ones designed by the skateboarders themselves and produced in loco within the urban facilitator using only local Indonesian woods. Skate-components design is generated with parametric design and their construction exploits CNC milling machines
