Copy & Paste is a fundamental step in the design process to achieve various degrees of complexity.
When it is used to duplicate entire buildings it is regarded as a shortcut that results in profit-driven design projects meant to be speculative instead of meaningful for a community.
On the other hand, for me, Copy & Paste is attractive as it possesses a certain beauty: “the Beauty of Order”.
In this project I wanted to deliberately use Copy & Paste as a design tool with which to attempt to achieve not only beauty but also uniqueness.
For this purpose I researched and identified a series of principles that could lead to design “uniqueness” and I eventually found 5 unique prime example buildings within the city of Chengdu.
